Aligning partners around sustainability goals
The Watershed Group, a leading international label manufacturer headquartered in Ireland, has formed a strategic partnership with Avery Dennison to advance sustainability across the packaging supply chain. This collaboration is designed to minimise waste and optimise logistical efficiency across both organizations’ European operations.
The Key initiatives demonstrating their connected goals include:
Sustainable Logistics - Avery Dennison and Watershed have collaborated with Tosca to transition to reusable plastic pallets instead of traditional wood. Plastic pallets are more durable than wooden pallets, so they can be re-used more often and are less likely to break, helping reduce the risk of damage, waste in the supply chain, and CO2 emissions. Tosca pallets can be used over 100 times, and when they can no longer be used, they are recycled.
Release liner recycling programme
Through active participation in waste management initiatives such as AD Circular, we contribute to the effective recycling of label liner waste, supporting circularity and reducing the environmental impact of labeling and packaging.
Watershed in partnership with Avery Dennison will collect your used label liners and ensure they’re recycled.
Why use AD Circular:
1. Cost effective
2. Users will receive a certificate at the end of the year stating CO2 + tonnage recycled
Liner-waste
3. Easy use via an online App.
4. Small minimum quantities for pickup
5. You can be sure that your waste will be recycled
How it works?
1. Sign up for AD Circular
2. Avery provides carton boxes — you fill them with used label liner
Use the online app to schedule a carton box pickup
Responsible Sourcing
The strategic collaboration supports both companies’ sustainability goals by improving supply chain processes and providing recyclable materials to markets like food, beverage, and pharma.
A Portfolio of Sustainable Materials
Watershed offers age of materials specifically designed to lower environmental impact without compromising performance. These options are central to our focus on material innovation.
Recycled Content Labels:
Face stocks and liners manufactured with a high percentage of recycled fibers, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.
Key choices include:
rPP (Recycled Polypropylene):
Polypropylene labels containing 30% post-industrial recycled resins, ideal for personal care, home, and food products.
rPET Liners:
Liners made from 30% recycled content, effectively reducing the reliance on virgin plastic.
Premium Recycled Papers:
Materials such as Fasson® rNoble Blanc FSC® (made from 100% recycled fibers) and Fasson® rCrush Citrus (containing 15% juice production by-product) are available for luxury items like wine and spirit labels.
Material Reduction (AD RDX™):
These solutions feature thinner and lighter labels, such as 70 GSM instead of 80 GSM, resulting in up to 14% less material use. This innovation reduces transport emissions and storage requirements by allowing more labels per roll.
Responsibly Sourced Paper:
Over 80% of all paper products used are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certified forests.
